Who are we?

1. We are first and foremost a people who Love Jesus as King, Friend and Saviour. 

 

2. We are a people who Love God’s word

 

In John 5:39 Jesus said,” You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness about me”

 

We treasure God’s word because it points us to Jesus – all of the scriptures….

 

3. We are people who Love one another

 

In John 13:35, Jesus said “By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another”

 

We love one another because Jesus first loved us and our love for one another shows that we also love Jesus. While Jesus calls us to love all people, He places a special emphasis on the love between God’s people- the church.

 

4. We are Presbyterians

 

a. What makes the presbyterian denomination distinct?

 

We are unique from other denominations, because we believe that God has given each local church a group of elders to oversee each congregation. Elders are described as under shepherds in the scriptures which ultimately point people to the chief shepherd- Jesus. The actual word presbyterian derives from the Greek word “presbuteros” which is translated “elder”.
